The third season I'm finding the characters changing a bit. They have introduced some more characters, and werewolves. It's still an excellent show!

I am curious because they have been going at the seasons one book at a time. This season will be the third book and a lot of crazy stuff goes down. I am excited to see Alcide, the werewolf that takes Sookie to Jackson. I hope he is tall, dark, and brooding!!

I loved the first two seasons! I haven't gotten to see the third season yet, but a friend of mine told me the show isn't as good. I am wondering if people that haven't read the books are starting to not like the story arc? If they are going by the books then this season should throw a huge wrench in a few of the love stories.

I've only read the first book, I never did bother reading the rest of the books. It probably does make a difference whether or not you've read the series first before watching the show? I know it did for me with Pretty Little Liars.

I have read like, the first 5 books. I have pretty much been able to enjoy both separately..it really hasn't changed how I feel about one or the other. I do have to say I'm still on the fence about Season 3. I mean, I am enjoying it and still love the show, I just can't put my finger on what it is exactly that is "turning me off." I think it has something to do with the dialogue. It seems stiff and forced at times, well to me it does anyway. lol But that's just me...:)

Normally I am not one of those "the book is soooo much better" type people, but a few of my friends are. That may be why I haven't gotten around to finding any places to stream season 3 yet.

I'm almost all the way through season 2 now. It's been fun even if its full of things that don't make much sense. Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying it, but:
1. No matter what happens, there's just no way around how boring Vampire Bill is. In his defense, most of the other vampires don't have a whole lot going for them in terms of excitement either. Lorena is by far the most interesting and I can't imagine why she would be so obsessed with someone so painfully bland. It was nice of Lorena to detain Bill the way she did during the totally ridiculous fellowship infiltration sequence, because the Bill running to save Sookie routine was starting to get really, really old.
2. You can tell from how it starts out that Sookie is supposed to nice and soft-hearted but a bit naïve and awkward in social situations. By the end of the first season she is controlling, defensive, passive-aggressive, and self-righteous. People are supposed to dislike her, and think evil things of her, and whisper behind her back and such, but they all like her and want her or want to confide in her too. It's kind of the same was with Bella from Twilight: they think she's a weirdo and don't like her, but actually they're fascinated by her and like her, even though they don't like her, despite how much they like her, etc. It's like the writers can't figure this out. Eric is a good example. It switches back and forth between "she's so fascinating, I want her so much," and "she's so insignificant, what does Bill see in her beyond her usefulness as a tool?" all the time. What does Bill see in her anyway? Beyond that Sookie doesn't need to worry about Bill's thoughts and that she's of some curiosity value to him because of her own powers, there's no apparent reason why the two of them would fall madly in love so quickly after turning their noses up at all those other potential suitors.
3. As it is right now, the Maryann mayhem half of the plotline seems completely randomly thrown in just so there would be more crazy stuff going on and to keep Tara and Sam busy while Sookie is away.
4. How on Earth has Hoyt made it this far without getting killed off? Considering all the others who came and went so quickly.
5. Does anyone in the whole town ever eat anywhere else besides Merlotte's?

You have many valid points! Most of the things you pointed out are sorted out in later books. But you are right, Bill is boring. Even in the books after the third one Bill is just blah.. but she does that on purpose. Sookie starts out simple and naive but she developes through out the series. Plus in later books you find out what it is about Sookie that makes all the vampires flock to her, because there is a reason.
Both Maryanne and the FotS are in the books but they don't play as big a part as they do in the show. I totally agree that it is just filler in the show to keep all the characters active while Sookie and Bill are away. As for Hoyt, he is actually nothing like his book counter part. I am curious to see where the show takes him because he is a better character in the show than the book, at least I think so. Also, Jessica is only in the show. She doesn't exist in the books at all.
To answer your last question, yes, there are other places in town to eat but they don't stay open as late. The town is a very small one and there are not many drinking establishments. The books mentions a few other bars but most of them are in different towns.
